A Sybil attack is an attack where the attacker controls many validators and therefore gains an unsafe amount of influence over the network. This is analogous to vote-stuffing in an election.

Proof-of-Stake is the method by which the Avalanche® network prevents Sybil attacks.

In a decentralized network like Bitcoin, Ethereum, or Avalanche, each validator influences which transactions are accepted and which are rejected.
